Watching the original Disney Robin Hood brought back some good memories. Such good animation, my eyes wanna bleed. Disney also have a new movie coming out featuring a fox so that looks interesting! So inspired this fox, speed sculpted in Scupltris and then retopoligized in Blender, I remember trying to do this on my old 2005 iMac and it failed horribly, my new machine has opened up some good artistic opportunities for me in terms of poly count in the sculpting department, it’s so much fun and I haven’t even gotten to the detailing! Thinking of rigging him up and doing some facial stuff, I might even do a tutorial of just how I go about doing that, but still undecided.
Not crazy about the loops around the mouth, and the eyes have 2 extras that blend into themselves that I don’t particularly like. Also want to beef up the neck. This might also serve as a good change to learn blender hair system.
The lack of females in my history folders worried me a bit, so tried to sculpt a female head. Anyhow this is what I got after a few hours in sculptris and photoshop, tried to make more femaleness come through with the liquify tool. More practice required, also think i need to look at reference more.
Trying to learn some more anatomy related things so that my characters are more believable. I really need to sit down and read them books that are gathering dust.
So Inspiring to be working at Triggerfish, at lunch you walk around see some people working on personal stuff, some of which is totally mind blowing! It inspired me to sculpt some more and so opened up Sculptris and started away at a head.
I think it’s a beast? The holes make me think of water for some reason :S Would be totally freaky if they moved like nostrils! Imagery from Avatar just flashed into mind of their banshees nostrils.
Took +- 30 mins, then added some quick color and grain in photoshop.
In my little break from rigging Rex I’ve done some quick sculpts of Akuma and Guile from Street fighter. Not sure who the made the Akuma concept that I worked from but the Guile concept was made by a talented guy called Mike (Zatransis) Henry, very cool style, I didn’t manage to capture it as well as I’d hoped but was still fun nevertheless.
Sculptris then into Zbrush, retopologized in Maya and then detailed again in Zbrush. Adding clothing items now and then will start with the texturing. Hopefully being able to finish the whole thing for my demo reel. aprox 2 days worth of work so far.
Trying to make a cowboy, and this is what i got so far… doesn’t look very cowboy like…yet, also my computer is struggling to handle the millions of polys inside zbrush which makes it a painful experience making the wrinkles, which don’t come out properly because of the lag. Alas I will carry on!
Another sculpt. The power went off twice during the compositing part of this picture… was very frustrating, having so much fun and then being interrupted by a power outage… TWICE! anyway I refused to not, not get it done and here it is, finally done. Electricity can’t get me down.
Another Sculpt! can’t get enough, done in about 1.5 – 2hrs. Still shocked at how easy the program handles, it’s literally like clay. Not that I’d ever be able to sculpt like this with the real stuff but anyway…
Gogo more practice!
